Melanie Sutherland is a Clinical Psychologist with over twenty years of experience in the public health sector, twelve as a Senior Psychologist. She has been in private practice for the past five years based in Northcote, VIC.

Melanie is skilled at working with individuals experiencing problems with depression and anxiety (including panic and social anxiety), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), alcohol and other drug use, grief and loss, as well as life transition and adjustment issues, relationship and personal challenges, and personal development. Melanie can assist individuals to become more skilled in communicating assertively, establishing and maintaining appropriate boundaries, resolving conflict and develop their decision-making and problem-solving skills.

She has significant experience treating young people and adults, both individually and in a variety of group programmes.

Melanie has also facilitated numerous training events and has supervised other Psychologists and mental health clinicians in enhancing their skills in working with clients who have co-occurring mental health and addiction problems.

Areas of Special Interest

In addition to working with a range of mental health and personal development issues, Melanie is particularly interested in seeing clients, both male and female, who are experiencing antenatal and postnatal depression/stress and parenting issues. Melanie has trained and worked in this specialised area and she is eligible to provide Pregnancy Support Counselling services under Medicare.

Melanie Sutherland has a special interest in working with adolescents. She has had considerable experience treating young people across a range of settings, with issues related to development, adjustment, mental health and substance use.
